Project Manager – Platform Development

Molecular Assemblies is a San Diego-based company developing a revolutionary, enzymatic DNA synthesis technology capable of powering new products in industrial synthetic biology, personalized therapeutics, precision diagnostics, and eventually information storage, nanotechnology and more.

We are seeking a project manager who will play a pivotal role in applying project management best practices in the commercialization of our technologies. The project manager will be involved in the planning, execution, and operational transfer of our high throughput automation platform, support technical decisions by provide guidance to teams with best practices, and collaborate with commercial and manufacturing operations teams to define a clear path to commercialization. This candidate is comfortable at operating at a system level as well as be able to dive deep into technical aspects of the project.


  • Lead, facilitate, coordinate, and track day-to-day activities required to ensure project success
  • Create and maintain detailed project plans, with the ability to up-level when appropriate
  • Communicate clearly and concisely project status, key risks, and mitigation paths
  • Drive the collection of VoCs and product requirements to define scope and create design and development plan
  • Provide clear direction and guidance to research and development teams to build best practices and standards
  • Proactively identify risks to project success and propose action plans for resolution
  • Collaborate with commercialization teams on defining strategy for product roll-out and ramp
  • Coordinate with manufacturing and operations teams for successful operational transfer
  • Manage key external vendors and development partners to ensure on-time completion of deliverables


  • Proven track record of managing engineering projects from concept to product launch to operations transfer
  • Understanding of key quality systems such as change management, design reviews, IQ/OQ/PQ, V&V, and design controls
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, communications, presentation, and written skills
  • In-depth knowledge and application of industry recognized project management principles and tools
  • Proficient with project planning software (i.e. MS Project), including dependencies and critical path determination
  • Project Management certification is highly desired
  • Quality Management certification is a plus


  • BS or greater in mechanical engineering, bioengineering, physics, chemistry, molecular biology or other related field
  • 10+ years in direct work experience, 5+ years project management experience
